Giving A Face To Child Sexual Abuse

Through drawings, paintings, film, books, activism, and collaborations, The Young Girl Project gives a face to child sexual abuse while providing a hub of information for children, survivors, and protectors to educate and empower one another to break the silence of abuse.

“Since shelter-in-place orders started in March 2020, for the first time ever, more than half of those reaching out to the National Sexual Assault Hotline have been minors. Of the minors who talked about their coronavirus-related concerns, 3 out of 4 said they were living with the person who was abusing them during the quarantine.”

“At the same time, official reports of child abuse have dropped—not because abuse is lessening, but because children no longer have access to the teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, and other adults who are most likely to spot and report suspected child abuse.” Statistic from RAINN

Be A Protector

To be a protector all it takes is to talk about child sexual abuse in an open, non-shameful way within your own social circles. We believe that if each person encourages this conversation with their siblings, kids, family, co-workers, friends etc it will have the largest impact of all in the prevention of child sexual abuse.

Teaching children about what is healthy and non-healthy touching empowers them, gives them the tools to protect themselves, and the confidence to say no or leave a situation that makes them uncomfortable. By helping them understand to trust their own intuition and challenge authority, you are giving children the opportunity to enforce their own rules and boundaries for their bodies.

Talking about child sexual abuse lets victims know they no longer have to deal with this by them selves or in silence. It provides a community of support around them with access to information on where to get help.

Our Work

Inspire
Encourage children and adults to speak about their experiences, so they inspire others to do the same.
50%
This is a worldwide problem, it affects everyone no matter what socio-economic or racial group you belong to.
No
Respect body boundaries. No means no.
Empower
Give children and adults the knowledge and support that empowers them to speak up and say no.
Friends
The greatest support you can give is to listen, you don’t have to have the answers or give advice.

Juveniles
The young are the most vulnerable as they have limited communication skills, and oftentimes emulate what has been done to them with others.
Protect
Share this information within your social circles, so we can protect the vulnerable and prevent this from happening.
One in Four
Listening to what is NOT said is as important as listening to what IS said. Silence does not mean yes, sometimes that’s a reaction from a previous trauma.
Questions to shame you
Please respond with empathy when an experience is shared with you, your words can be damaging if not spoken with mindfulness.
